Digital Seniors Privacy Statement

Digital Seniors takes good care of all personal information provided to us and will not share this with another party. We do our utmost to comply with, and inform our team, of Aotearoa’s privacy and data protection regulations.

This policy explains our kaupapa for dealing with personal information and data, whether that be the seniors we help, our volunteer coaches and Trustees, and our partners. It is meant to reassure people of our commitment to protecting their information and not to cause concern.

 

With all personal information in our care, we aim to:

  • collect information directly from the person,
  • explain why we are collecting their personal information and what we will do with that information, and
  • consider what is appropriate when collecting information given our Digital Seniors kaupapa and our legal obligations.

1.0 Collection of personal information and data

Digital Seniors only collects personal information that we feel is important to our services and/or to show relevant trends and progress of our community help. We don’t collect personal information which is unnecessary, merely for the sake of it, or to give to a third party.

 

Examples of our personal information and data are:

  • a senior registering to benefit from our Services
  • a volunteer coach or Trustee wanting to be a member on our team
  • a person asking Digital Seniors to contact them
  • subscribers to our newsletters

All information provided is optional. People may choose which information they would or wouldn’t like to provide.

2.0 Digital Seniors uses online tools to collect and store personal information and data

We use  the following online tools to market and enable our services:

  • digitalseniors.co.nz
  • facebook.com/digitalseniors
  • customised apps (for our volunteer coaches to record their services)
  • Mailchimp (for newsletters)

Anyone using our online tools consents to us storing their information on our secure hosting servers; Crazy Domains, and our newsletter tool; Mailchimp. 

 

We manage these tools carefully, complying with online etiquette, standards and Aotearoa’s privacy and data regulations.  

 

Digital Seniors will at all times take necessary steps to protect all  personal information. This information is stored on secure servers that have SSL Certificates issued by leading certificate authorities.

 

If Digital Seniors becomes aware of any security breach relating to personal information, we will immediately advise the person concerned and conduct an investigation.

3.0 Digital Seniors uses cookies

Digital Seniors’s website (www.digitalseniors.co.nz) stores cookies. These cookies are used to collect information about how people interact with our website and to allow us to remember them. We use this information in order to improve and customise browsing experience and for analytics and metrics about our visitors to our websites and social media platforms. Users may disable cookies when on these sites.

4.0 Digital Seniors can collect non-personally identifiable data

Non-personally identifiable data is data that does not identify the individual. Digital Seniors may use this data to:

  • look for trends in our community to improve our services.

5.0 Accessing your information

Under the Privacy Act 2020, people have the right to access and request us to correct any of their personal information. 

People can contact us to:

  • see or change their personal information Digital Seniors has stored, or
  • if they have any concerns regarding their privacy.

Digital Seniors may require proof of identity before being able to provide any personal information.

6.0 Opt out of email communications

Digital Seniors uses email to send out information about our services.  At any stage people can remove themselves from our mailing list.  If people choose to opt out, our obligations for protecting their privacy and notifying security breaches still apply.

7.0 Privacy complaints process

If a person  has any concerns about how Digital Seniors manages their personal information, they can contact us.

We will:

  • Send  an initial response to the query or complaint within ten (10) business days; and
  • Look into and seek to resolve the issue within twenty (20) business days. If necessary, we may need a longer period to do this but will notify the person if there is any delay.

If  the person is  not satisfied with our response to any privacy-related concern, they can contact the Privacy Commissioner and request a review.

8.0 This Privacy Policy may be updated

If we change or update this Privacy Policy we will make sure the new version is accessible.
